24 Season 5

Why I hate it?

Once you start you can’t get enough

Why I love it?

Once you start you can’t get enough

I remember my first 24, what do they mean 24? Like a naive person, I thought it was a 24 episode where Jack tackles down each terrorist a time and finish them in an episode and then start again. Then we realized it was for each hour, my brother and I. It was nerve wrecking, they left you with these loose ends and you’d have to wait for a week for the other episode to come. No thank you, my heart it too weak. I’ll buy the whole season and watch it and stop whenever I am content.

Jack, who’s he? A mini human-GOD. He’s like superman except the bullets don’t bounce of him they avoid him. He’s like batman few words and mysterious. He’s like spiderman agile. He’s like 007, all beautiful women around him. I think they mistyped the series title ‘24’ it should have been ‘24 Jack’. He works for the USA government, CTU department. From what I have seen, Jack answers for himself and to himself, other people only slow him down most of the time if we want to be fair. From my point of view let us setup a department call it Jack and he’ll run it! He always gets the job done. Don’t they ever learn, they still take him out and put him in custody and get him mad by taking away his gun, never ever take away his gun do you think that it’s the deadliest thing he’s got, think again. I mean how thick their heads must be, Jack is always right. Move along and let him do his job. I wonder how they survived in the year and half that he was supposedly dead (End of Season 4).

I like the show. It gets your heart pumping. I’m still watching season 5. GO GO Jack GOD SPEEEEED ;D

Wireless Problems

Many users bring in their laptops complaining about their wireless connection. I have found out that there are two major scenarios regarding this issue.

  • Forgetting to turn on the laptop’s wireless switch.
  • Laptops come with a hardwired switch or button that turns the wireless on and off. It can be found above the keyboard keys, on either of the laptop’s four sides, etc. This is done for many reasons. I’ll mention two of them. First is to save your laptops power. Imagine you have your laptop running on batteries and your laptop’s wireless is on though you’re not using it and it is searching for wireless network every now and then. One might disable the wireless connection to solve the problem but again this can be the reason of the problem, the wireless network connection is disabled thus you can’t see any wireless networks ;) The other reason is for security issues. When your wireless is on you can be connected to any wireless network non-secured most probably or to any other workstation through ad-hoc mode and you wouldn’t know about it therefore making yourself vurnable to hacking and compromising your data.

  • An application that uses your wireless resources.
  • There are applications that use the wireless network card to serve their purpose, for example Netstumbler. If these programs are running then all the wireless resources are extensively used by that application. Also, if the application is somehow corrupted thus affecting the wireless functionality. Some of these applications are used to configure your wireless devices. Try to remove them and if you couldn’t then that is most probably the cause of your problem.

There are many other issues like improper wireless card driver, viruses, spywares/adawares, etc. The above is based on my observation.

    Dead Beat

    How exhausted am I?
    tired

I have been busy that I have forgotten how much work I’ve done. I’m so tired that I didn’t realize how tired I was until the moment I paused. Yesterday I drove home as fast as I can to break my fast. I sat down on the floor and ate. After my entire body comprehended the situation I couldn’t get up. I lay down and rested my back against the sofa until my body could muster enough strength to get up.

The thing is when I’m that tired sleeping doesn’t do it for me. I slept around 10 pm so I wouldn’t wake up in the middle of the night. Nevertheless, I woke up every hour. I just open my eyes and lift my head suddenly. If somebody was there I would have scared the hell out of them. I woke up drank some water and went to the bathroom every hour until Fajer prayer. Finally in the morning I woke up at 9 am, took a bath a while later and then left the house around 12.30 pm to go to work.

I wish humans can hibernate, in any situation and place one can take a corner and rest for a while and then up and about their business again.

Today all the memories in college came rushing back. The way the time runs so fast before the job is done. I hope tomorrow is the last to wrap things up.

    Path is too deep

Here I am copying my files to my network drive, yes I got one :D and this message pops up. Cannot copy file. The path is too deep

    pathtoodeep

Aha not to worry. I did come across this problem about a year ago. One employee had a server within our switch and his PC was connected to another switch. The problem was when he tried to copy a seemingly large file 1MB, if it can be called large, the estimated time was unreasonable like 1 hour! and after it starts copying within seconds this message comes up. The trick is when I tried from my PC everything was fine, maybe because I was within the same switch I thought. But no, people all over the company some had the same problem some did not locating within the same switch or other switches.

It took me three days to troubleshoot this problem. Simply force the speed on the network card to 100M-Full Duplex on both machines, the server and the employee’s workstation. Through my search, several issues may cause this problem but ours was solved by what I mentioned earlier. And of course it solved mine today ;D

    Next Chapter

    nextstep

I place my palms across the glass door and push, it’s after 5 pm. As soon as the cool breeze touches my face, I look up and smile. There in the distance way up high in the sky with it’s tip crooked a little downwards I glanced upon a banana shaped moon. I turn to my right to cross the green grassy path and my eyes are shimmered by the burning fire colour sun as it sets towards the clear quiet blue sea and that further lightens up my face. I can almost hear the yellow greenish grass breaking under the pressure of my step, I gaze to my feet and through the white sandals that I wore today I can feel the water that recently washed down to the soil. It is so peaceful and the serenity of the place is breathtaking. I reach the paved path and I see a bumblebee, how it reminds me of my childhood. I see it flying between almost dead weeds and plants I can not even name. I walk towards my car, measuring every step. It’s staring at me stretching sluggishly in the dirt moving it’s head with me. It was a yellow cat, oh how much do I love those creatures. I start my car and hope to reach home before ma’3reb prayer because I’m fasting. I know I have to come back tomorrow to wrap things up. Days are going by and the next chapter is about to begin.

    Website Documentation

Documenting a website is HELL. Even if you helped design the website. It all began when I first joined my company, they kept all network related information in an access file, so I suggested that we can develop an old website to manage our data online. This website can be accessed through the company’s Intranet only and managed by IT people.

I love programming in Java. Anything that can be done thorough programming any task, I whip up a java code. As a result I previously used JSP within my web programming but then I had to learn ASP to go along with my other colleagues. It wasn’t hard to learn the basics which I did through many useful resources one of them (www.w3schools.com) and it’s easy to pick up from there with a large resource such as the Internet.

How long did it take me to document the website? 11 hours over two days! Taking screen shots, explaining every feature, every button, marking pointers, etc. Today I sat in my office from 7.30 am to 2.10 pm continuing the report with minor interruptions of course. As soon as I finished, I briskly looked over it and sent it. Nevertheless, I was proud of the result but I would hate ever having to repeat that experience again.

    Home Page

This strange question popped in my mind.

What does your home page tell about you?

As soon as you start up you Internet browser (Explorer, Netscape, etc) which webpage comes to life?

I have witnessed many PCs and I’ve realized that categorizing is not that diverse when it comes to configuring the default webpage.

Most people use Microsoft’s Internet explorer thus the default is MSN, this is the majority. When it comes to men, you’ll find it to be an online stock market (امجابل الأسهم), newspaper or bank website. Other people may have their emails websites. Women tend to have that if not the MSN site. Not to forget some will have a website discussing their countries issues, whether it’s Egypt, India, Philippines, etc. This is not a statistic but a mere observation ;)

    To configure the webpage:

Tools -> Internet Options -> General

Just write in the box the websites you desire, yes I said websites. Since IE7 supports tabs, you can include more than one webpage in each line and they all open in different tabs. Which is nice and neat.

I hope some employees will take a look at this and spare us the intensive phone calls regarding this issue. YES, we IT have other important matters to attend to ;)

By the way, my home page is Google. Hmmmm, what this say about me?

    Troubleshooting

I decided to share some common problems that come across my way in hopes it maybe of use to others. But as is the case in IT, you always have to double check. Though the symptoms maybe the same the solution is different.

I opened my PC today and something was wrong nothing was starting up. I could see the start menu, desktop, etc. I had other applications run at start up but they weren’t able to. So I started the task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) where you can see all the processes running nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Regular CPU consumption, no peculiar processes, etc. I haven’t had an update recently. I didn’t install any new programs. It was working before Eid and nothing was changed.

The thing is when I attempt to click on start or something on the desktop, the system hangs. I knew that (explorer.exe) manages windows graphical shell which includes the start menu, taskbar, desktop and so on. If you kill the process the graphical interface will disappear. Anyway I did that and re-started the PC many times but to no avail. Users were calling with problems so I had to find a solution fast. I called the workshop for help and mentioned my suspicion.

This I didn’t know. After terminating (explorer.exe) through the task manager you can go to file, new task and type explorer.exe and it will run again and that solved the problem. I usually navigate by browsing to the location of the executable file I want to run.

Still I didn’t know what caused the process to hang and not start properly. Maybe it was affected by some other process or GOD forbid I’m infected with something nasty anyway today I didn’t have time to investigate maybe tomorrow.

    They did it AGAIN

شرايج أقول حق البنات ايوني الأحد

عاد اهما قالوا خل نطلع, بس جنا يبي يطلعون ما يبون يقعدون بالبيت

    لا كل مكان زحمة

اي و الله خلاص انا أقولهم

The day started beautifully early in the morning, can’t help it if I’m a morning person ;D

I had to go to the bank on the way I forgot! So I redirected to another bank. Went to Starbucks then to the saloon to do my hair. Finished early, called for an appointment to have my nails done. I was soooo happy. No matter how tough the girl looks, she doesn’t mind pampering now and then ;)

Is it my mistake if I arrived at my sister’s house early? I didn’t recognize the cars, maybe I entered the wrong house, no that’s their tree, I pushed the door it locked, maybe the other door and it’s locked too.

Called Fatma, your door is locked.
No come to the other door
Maybe I didn’t push hard enough, I thought to myself

It was dark inside, why didn’t Fatma open the lights.

Of course for a second there I thought something was wrong and I calculated in my mind how to break the door and see if she is in trouble, I have to get something metallic to break through their thick glass …, I know I’m sick but I can’t help it!

Anyway there was a blaze of light in the middle that can be seen through the glass door, then she opened the door, SURPRISE!! They were having a birthday party for me. I was sooo shocked and my embarrassing wobbly reaction came to life. OH MY GOD, guys you shouldn’t have done that.

They got me!! I didn’t see that one coming. Now I can fit all the pieces together. Why Rania didn’t want me to pick her up. Maha didn’t want me to bring desert. Fatma didn’t want her nails done.

They had all the party planned out. We danced, played games, chat, ate, etc. They were all wearing green because Fatma asked me what are you wearing for the gathering. I innocently replied, I just got my green skirt dry cleaned, I’m going to wear that. I had so much fun that we didn’t notice how time went by really fast.

As I was driving home listening to the radio, I was singing with Avril:
When your gone the pieces in my heeeeeart ….. I missss yoooooooou … tra tra … humming and swaying in the car. It was a sad song, but I was singing along with a smile on my face.

I love you guys. This day I will never ever forget. Thank you for making my 25th a day to remember :*

PS: The best thing about getting presents is opening them. I LOVED them all. The CD is amazing. I laughed like hell last night. You got talent sis ;*

    Ramadan Aftermath & Eid

This year Ramadan was different for me. I don’t think I have fully utilized it compared to last year’s. The bottom line I know I could have done better. I hope if I make it to next year’s Ramadan I’ll take that in consideration.

    انشاء الله, الله يتقبل مني

Well Eid is different as you get older. The excitement is not about waking up early in the morning, going to the masjid, having variety of dishes spread out for you on breakfast, having overnight “henna” on both your hands and feet *not willingly*, doing your hair in the saloon, collecting “عيادي“. As you get older, I think it’s about the holiday, enjoying a few days off work, hanging out and having a good time.

I haven’t yet gone to the bank to withdraw money! I hate going to the bank so since we are in a very rapid growing technology age. I was thinking why not have one of those wireless credit card readers or any payment terminal that you can swipe your credit card, enter the kid’s account number, amount you want to give and that’s it. Save yourself the headache of carrying cash but mostly going to the bank.

    creditcardreader

Just imagine every house has one, whether it’s connected to dial-up, DSL, mobile, etc. You just sit, kids line up:

Eidik Mubarak, How old are you? Your account number? Yallah your money has been transferred. Don’t waste it.

I don’t think this is a far fetch I would love to see this happening.

Eid Mubarak to all of you, Hope your enjoying the holiday :D
