Guilty Pleasures
Posted by Bloggylife in thoughts on November 28, 2007
Forgive me for I have sinned … twice …

Couldn’t resist the aroma, the foam, I could almost taste it, I tried to fight it, the warmth of the cup in my hands, the soft foam on my lips, the sweet sugar balance, the perfect presentation, the warm brownish liquid as it discreetly enters the forbidden doors that have been sealed for months. The sensation of having it while reading my novel, a well deserved treat at the end of my working hours.
How did I hold back for so long? I’ll restrain myself. Perhaps later … just want another taste of the heavenly delicious cappuccino … just one more time today …
Personal Pleasures

I don’t remember when I started liking reading novels but every now and then I find myself searching for the next book to indulge myself in. Usually I need to surround myself with this quiet comfy atmosphere to really comprehend and feel what I am reading but lately I find myself pulling out my novel whenever I have free time. That realization hit me recently as I was ordering takeaway from Chili’s and I noticed it was somehow quiet so I decided to continue my reading through ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ when I came across a part that was so intensifying that I was breathing heavily and not believing the words I was processing with my eyes and when I was finally done, the live atmosphere around me came crashing in through my ears so fast, the loud sounds shocked me that I had to look around to see where it was coming from and noticed that the restaurant was fuller than when I came in. Somehow I managed to block the sound and live in my fantasy cocoon for a while.
Reading is a wonderful experience once you have the right book. From each and everyone I have learned something. It just hits deep, even if temporarily, into your heart, mind and soul. Even the ones I didn’t like and skimmed through really fast or had a hard time finishing them, I always find, even if it is only a single line, something to relate to.
#-way servers
Posted by Bloggylife in technology on November 26, 2007
We are having this new servers installed. And I kept hearing 2-way and 4-way servers. I automatically assumed they were talking about the processor type 2 being Dual-Core and 4 being Quad-Core. WRONG.
2-way servers having two processors regardless of the type. Of course that depends on the motherboard and what it can support and its upgrade limitations. 4-way servers have four processors. That was interesting.
One point was intriguing me and I asked the technician. First of all Dual-processors can process two threads simultaneously and Quad-processors can process four. This is very useful for high performance applications, high resolution videos and especially games where you have multiple processes running and being executed at the same time. What I wanted to know was if I had 2-way server with Quad-Core installed vs 4-way server with Dual-Core installed will they perhaps have the same performance?
He said yes. But I didn’t take it 100% because I sensed he wanted to get rid of me ;P Honestly, I partly take blame I was hovering and annoying him with all my questions.
From my Googling around. It really depends how the processors communicate and share resources. That all depends on the manufacturer’s design. There are different testing and results from the two major manufactures Intel and AMD. I won’t list my findings but it is really interesting if one wants to snoop around.
Please bear in mind that whatever you read is subjected to being unintentionally wrong because they are my understandings so if I am wrong feel free to correct me.
Girls FUN night out
Posted by Bloggylife in friends on November 26, 2007
ONE
NOOOO WAIT
TWO
NOOOOOOOOOO
THREE, damn I didn’t pull hard enough. GO. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I closed my eyes for a second and then opened to see how fast we were going. How can this be anything but spectacular, refreshing, fun and so lively?
The best fun time I had in soooo long, I haven’t felt this young and alive. We girls went to Sha’ab. I was dying to have a go at this jump game I dunno what they call it, bungee jumping perhaps. I tried convincing my sister but she didn’t want to. So Maha decided to have a go and then Rania surprisingly decided to join us too. I think because she was hungry and her senses didn’t work well ;P she screamed her lungs off: waaayyyyyy, my eyes are bleeding!!!. I’m like: woman, you come up with the funniest comments when you’re scared. seriously how can someone articulate such phrase in that state of mind *I’m still laughing*
6ab3an me, you can’t depend on me for any comfort when I’m having sooo much FUN, hehehehe. I was laughing and enjoying myself ;P
Rania was saying, I changed my mind I want to go down
Me thinking: well it’s a little bit too late for that
But actually saying: close your eyes. You won’t feel a thing. Khalas, it’s not that high aslan.
Don’t know what Maha was saying because all I can hear was Rania’s screaming. But eventually Rania cooled down and I could hear that Maha was enjoying the ride
When I pulled that string, I wanted to do it AGAIN. I can see my sister from high above and I was waving to her. She was filming us, but we were too far away so the video wasn’t clear enough.
Next time I’m taking my sister with me. She needs to experience this
I couldn’t sleep that night from all the excitement. My legs were twitching on their own!!!
We tried most of the games there, even the slides. Nothing matches a good girls night out, having FUN and then eating a delicious dinner at Johnny Carino’s

Dentists
Posted by Bloggylife in thoughts on November 20, 2007

My history with dentists goes way back. I remember in primary school ‘bel-ebtedaee’. They used to call out names at the end of the ‘6aboor’ to take the students to the dentist. That was done often. Of course my mother will always put my name!! So I decided enough is enough and the next time they call my name I’m not going.
As it happens, one day after the ‘6aboor’ before we go to our classes, they echoed my name through the mics. I stood my ground.
My class mates started to say: They’re calling you!!
I don’t know how I responded but I didn’t go and went with the rest of the class back to our classroom.
Did they forget me, noooooo. A teacher came to my classroom looking for me!!!
Offfffff, I had no other choice but to go.
My turn on the devil’s dentist’s chair, surprisingly she says, ‘everything is OK‘.
I remember this moment and the place and me smiling. If it is possible for a human being to emit light, I did.
But then I see a frown upon her face, ‘but you can’t go empty handed, here let me take out this loose teeth’ WTF!!!! Of course I was too young to comprehend such word, but now that comes to mind.
Allah yesalmokim, one of my front teeth was about to fall, she didn’t leave nature take it course, she just took her needle stuck in my gum and pulled out the tooth!!!! I was helpless.
If there was a dentist Disney land, I would go in for FREE. Actually they would pay me to go in, from all the pain history I’ve been through. If a kid likes going to the dentist, they’re most likely to grow up and be dentist or serial killers. Normal people HATE dentists. Well not dentists but what they do. That’s why they cover their faces, don’t tell me for health reasons, it’s to seal their identity so you wouldn’t put a face on your enemy. Stalk them after they wrap up and then corner them, strap them to the chair, drill, stick a needle, miss here and there, make them have their mouth wide open for at least 30 minutes and finally take out a tooth and say it was the wrong one ;D not forgetting to hand them a lollipop on their way out to ensure enough sugar to decade their teeth so they have to come back again ;P
I wish i had perfect teeth. So I wouldn’t have to go to the dentist.
Define Your Family
Posted by Bloggylife in thoughts on November 19, 2007

Whenever someone says you and your family what pops in my mind. My family: my sister, my brothers and parents. WRONG. Apparently they do not come under the definition of family.
When I am entitled to something, for example, you and your family have won a weekend stay at our hotel. OK, I’m thinking, yeah my sister and I will have FUN. Where do I shove my little brothers, they will want to bring their friends but NO that can’t happen there is barely enough space for us, I’ll give them some slack their friends can come over but not sleep over I must make that clear …, then suddenly your bubble is burst and what they meant was your husband and children!!!! But I’m not married thus you mean I have no family!! But ma’am you can come and others would have to pay!! No thank you, that takes the point out of a free prize doesn’t it?? Even when working most benefits and promotions include you and your family, again they meant your non-existent spouse and un-harvested children eggs. So why don’t they give us the option to select our family members? Wouldn’t that be fair to all married and non-married? Even married couples, who says their spouses will be part of everything that is offered to their other half, maybe their sister or brother will like to come along on a free trip or join a health club at half price.
In the end, here I am waiting for my family aka Mr. Right and unborn children to enjoy whatever is coming my way because apparently now I am family-less.
Troubleshooting Email Server
Posted by Bloggylife in troubleshooting, work on November 16, 2007
Sitting by myself at work thinking:
‘this is a sloooow day, GOD, time is passing by so slowly, no problems today?? WTH, be careful what you wish for woman, not good not good, let this week be over’
Since I’m not acquainted with email servers and their configuration, I decided to start snooping around and reading.
I got a pen and pad and wrote down my observation and conclusions and troubleshooting steps since the email queue was getting larger and slowing the mail transfer process. Minor changes here and there. Then my phone rings:
‘They’re complaining no emails are going out’
‘Sh*t, what have I done’ see what happens when you get BORED!!
Since I’ve learned my lesson and knew panic attacks only clouds my judgement, I traced back my steps and knew the problem was because too many junk emails were holding off the server’s resource, the changes I‘ve made couldn‘t have sabotaged the server‘s functionality, once the junk emails were cleared the flow of emails were being sent. Breathe breathe, it is NOT your fault that your testing environment is the same as your live one, hehehehe. Anyway the problem isn’t solved entirely, emails still get queued along time before being sent.

So here what I have come up with so far in terms of general email server troubleshooting.
- Write down your thoughts, ideas, problem and possible causes and solutions. This I got out of one of the sites in troubleshooting email server
- Check out the event viewer on your email server. See if there is pattern or something odd happening. Search your findings.
- Check out any filtering applications that come along with antivirus application. Disable that and see if it solves your problem. It didn’t for mine.
- See what kind of emails are being blocked whether sent or received. Send to your company’s email account and receive using another account for example Hotmail or Yahoo an vice-versa. Make sure the problem is not related to attachment limitation, file type, etc. view any Non-delivery reports (NDRs) sent by your server, that will clarify some issues.
- Look at the email queue, see which SMTP links your server created. Through the ‘nslookup’ command try ‘telnet’ to the email server through port ‘25‘ just to make sure you are not on it‘s black list as a spammer. This can be done after writing the previous command, ‘set type=mx’ and write the domain name without the ‘www’ you don’t want the host record. Try telnet to the result. Usually some have more than one mx record for spam protection start with the minimum number because it has a higher priority and most probably your email server will try to contact it. If you can’t connect then that’s your problem, maybe you have DNS issues like not having a PTR record.
I’m still searching and trying to solve our problem. Write down the changes you made because you never know when you need to trace back
take it from me. Any ideas for email troubleshooting you are welcome to share
New Job Panics
Posted by Bloggylife in troubleshooting, work on November 16, 2007
Panic attacks, The sudden onset of intense anxiety, characterized by feelings of intense fear and apprehension and accompanied by palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, and trembling.

Yes I’ve had those lately!! One of network admin’s worst nightmares, it to come early in the morning, sit and discover there is no Internet connection whatsoever in a network that she/he isn’t completely aware of. Talk about PANIC!!!
All what you supposedly know runs straight through the door and what is so obvious and trivial becomes impossible and hard to figure out.
Lesson learned:
- Go back to basics
- Don’t start blaming your ISP and calling them ‘min siba7 Allah ‘7eer’ claiming their DNS servers are down. hehehhehe, I hope they forgot ;P
- First and foremost if all the network is down, start by checking your router/gateway. The interface maybe down which can be done through simple telnet and few commands. In fact your Internet cable maybe and I’m saying maybe unplugged and that is your problem and you have annoyed and harassed poor ISP for nothing. Forgive me
