Sleepless Night

sleepless

Didn’t get much sleep after the fajer prayer, my mind was racing like crazy, I tossed and turned but no use, my alarm went off and it’s time for work … Just got in … cappuccino … cups and cups of coffee to get me through the day.

My Day

I got some searching to do and a report to write, so for change of scenery and some quiet time I went to a coffee shop to search and took my bro’s laptop and guess what it didn’t boot, it is official the HDD DIED!!! I think the poor thing spiralled itself to self destruction, last time I went to my bro’s room, I saw the laptop on the floor and I always tell him it is a laptop when you are done turn it off, hibernate the poor thing, standby, I literally smelled something burning from within, I opened it took it out and put it back in, yes it’s not hardwired to the motherboard ;P, so a trip to Hawally is a must and I might get him one of those cooling docking stations to give the poor thing a chance. The HDD started giving problems a while back so I took off my data ;P which isn’t much, anyways my bro doesn’t have anything on it, he just uses it for chatting, movies, web browsing, the usual. The good thing is that I get to pop it open later on because it is already dead, I have my cool tool set on standby.

There is something nasty going on with our network, I can’t point my finger at it. It is driving me crazy. I just discovered a software that comes with Microsoft exchange, Sybari, it is a content-management, antivirus, and e-mail security solution, where mostly you need to purchase a license. Supposedly there is a worm with its own SMTP engine fooling around and I can’t catch the source yet. And oh boy do I hate McAfee, who the fuck developed their management interface, so I suspect a machine and I want to force a scan or get the latest scan statistics, couldn’t figure it out. OK, the open ports a stupid ‘how to’ to answer my questions, a thing that can be done in minutes is taking hours!!! Good thing we are upgrading, starting from scratch, what we are currently deploying is a lousy excuse of an antivirus application, the poor technician is going to have a hell of a time with me standing over their head.

Sometimes you come across the right thing when you most need it …

One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.

IE vs Firefox

firefox_vs_ie

I’ve been facing some issues lately with my IE browser and when searching for a solution all the roads seem to lead to other browsers mainly Firefox. Especially with Google sites like my email or sites that require certification not identified by Microsoft. I would install it and successfully I may add but as soon as I open the site again it gives me the same error. As for gmail, that my browser’s cache is full although I just cleared everything, increased the size, restarted the PC, nothing seems to solve the issue, so I switched to Mozilla Firefox which is quiet intriguing so far and no problems and operating smoothly. But I notice that for some applications that have web management it alerts that it is not supported by this browser and I may face some difficulties till now no reported problems from my side. When asked about a specific supposedly un-trusted site’s certification, I confirm the installation and voila, worked. So I went back to my IE which has been giving me trouble for months now and installed the un-trusted certificate again and guess what, yes it worked!! I guess it needed the competition, IE is now aware that Firefox is residing within the same machine and maybe it is trying to prove itself. I just need to get used to Firefox’s interface and navigation.

Here a funny JOKE from my Google portal subscription, it fits the “politic drama action” we have right now:

A busload of politicians were driving down a country road, when suddenly the bus ran off the road and crashed into an old farmer”s barn.

The old farmer got off his tractor and went to investigate. Soon he dug a hole and buried the politicians. A few days later, the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus and asked the old farmer where all the politicians had gone.

The old farmer told him he had buried them.

The sheriff asked the old farmer, “Lordy, were they ALL dead?”

The old farmer said, “Well, some of them said they weren’t, but you know how them crooked politicians lie.”

Update: Actually I noticed I have trouble with sites that I know are published using IIS, I don’t know if this related

My iGoogle

igoogle

My homepage is iGoogle which is a nice service provided by google kinda like a portal in which you can customize what you have when you login to your google account.

There are alot of online gadgets that you can add to further customize your google portal. Some are developed by google themselves and others by other developers. I am not sure how you can add your own developed gadgets and if there is some kind of policy or guidelines to follow but I’ll check that later since I am not a developer.

I can see my gmail, but it doesn’t display new messages instantly because it doesn’t refresh, I also added a ToDo gadget to save papers but I can only have seven items!!, puzzles and riddles which I try not to look at while at work because I’ll start solving them and they aren’t that easy, jokes for laughs, and many other cool gadgets out there.

Select your own theme from a list or simply design your own.

Everyday I discover a new feature and try to play around and further customize my iGoogle. Give it a try.

Update: iGoogle does refresh automatically to load updates to your online gadgets

Three Year Anniversary

threebinary

It has been three years today since I joined the working task force. Well I can say for sure that, DAMN sure time flies by so quickly. I always ask myself what I have expected the outcome to be, I can’t be sure what the response to that is except that I always imagined being happy, well at least most of the time, doing my job. I didn’t want to be one of those who always complained about what I do and not have fun doing it, learn something, or have something to look forward to. One thing for certain it is not as easy as it seems.

Once I read about who has the best job and they were absolutely thrilled about it and that they have the best job in the world! I was like, damn they make it sound so easy. What amazes me the most are the ones who think they have the best where in today’s standard isn’t, in term of working hours, pay check, benefits, etc. those to me have found their pot of gold.

I guess what I miss the most is having a mentor, like someone to guide me teach me the ways, but here especially in Kuwait is hard to find. But I have the WWW, though it takes a lot of time to learn one thing and as soon as I get my head around one thing something else pops and here continues the never endless cycle. My problem, is that I don’t focus, I want to be everywhere.

What I wish for is to get to work in Japan because I am amazed by their work ethics and dedication or China where basically all the hacking and copy like techs are originated. It’ll be weird first, because I believe they’ll be so smart and have to tolerate me but I’ll get used to it and then I’ll learn their language, ohhhh, I would love that and maybe learn a few martial art moves that’ll come in handy especially when conveying a message say for example to drivers here ;)

It is has been a peaceful week with people accidentally removing our jumpers from our lines, never mind, I wish next week to pass quickly because there are some decision factors regarding my career that I want to happen quickly and end on a happy note or what is best for me.

Mariah’s Nerd Talk

Have you seen Mariah’s new video, Touch My Body, I love Mariah and I adore her new single but few things caught my attention regarding her video clip:

What’s a copy nerd doing touching her PC, I mean shouldn’t he be around photocopy machines or something

The last part when saying, the download speed is killing me, please tell me you updated to 802.11?? what is she saying a, 9, n ???

First thing before the nerd saying yes, shouldn’t he make sure that whatever wireless router or AP she has supports this ;P maybe something is wrong with her PC … what’s her bandwidth … who uses wireless cards on PCs when LAN is there, hehehehe … besides 802.11n standard is not finalized ;D

And second what kinda download speed does she have, I mean ‘g’ supports 54Mbps but your broadband connection is at most what 1 Mb for home users, I am assuming that in USA they don’t actually deliver 200Mbps to home … so no matter how you upgrade, you are limited by your WAN connection unless you have some wireless home network sharing going on ;P

OK .. I had to say that :D … maybe I am getting something wrong … but whatever supposedly nerd talk they injected into the video clip is a total mess up

Cont. Cleaning Room

small-broom-1

Tidying my room, I am almost done. Amazing the amount of junk and things I took out. Insha’Allah I’ll be done before the end of this week.

To get myself in the mood and excited about tidying my room I went and bought several stuff for my room.

IKEA, first of all I like going there. They have nice stuff, it is cheap and most importantly you get to assemble the product. Now that is pure fun. Granted some of their stuff are questionable and you think they might not last, nevertheless, I got myself a DVD holder and a straw thingee to place my shoes which I just finished putting together and placed in front of my room ‘yes fa6fooo6 I am taking your advice and slowly taking over hehehehe’ and candles.

My sis bought a cover set from Safat Alghanim and was raving about it, so on one of my holiday’s mornings I went over there, so peaceful, trotting around alone with a cup of coffee in hand and surprisingly I saw that they sell Cadillacs, heavens … don’t look don’t look … just walked away … though I wanted to buy everything I wanted, I didn’t because I was on a budget, I got myself a 100% cotton cover set and I just replaced my old ones and discovered my bed isn’t a queen size !!! so I either buy a new bed or live with it ;P since the first isn’t possible I’ll just buy a new queen size cover filling ;D it kinda made my bed looks bigger.

Cleaning my room, I discovered stuff way back from 1995, school meetings, appointments, warranties, cards and pictures ;P why do I keep those stuff??

What else is left, shelves, I need small single shelves to hang on the wall to put my books … and one more thing … too make my room bigger, take over another room by knocking down the wall, now that is a project that needs determination, convincing, stepping over my brothers, I should pull out my big sister card but I don’t think it works anymore ;P I’ll figure something out …

Relaxing Thoughts

As soon as she touches my shoulder blades, I am in a better place thinking when I’m going to have this again :D

spa_massage_masthead

YES, massages. I really didn’t believe in them. In fact I have tried a couple as starters and didn’t like them at all and didn’t quite figure out why they claim they relax you at all.

I am the kinda of person that goes stiff, so poor masseuse will say ma’am relax, it’s OK … just relax … see the more rigid you get the more she gets tired .. trying to work your muscles …

I reached a point where my body is totally relaxed although my mind is racing so I’ll focus on what she is doing, still haven’t quite mastered the totally relaxed state yet but I believe I am getting there.

One of the best spa places I tried, is Aroma Spa in Marina but if you want the whole experience go to Spa Time in Muhallab. It is amazing and the ladies there, though it can be annoying trying to figure out what they are saying, are magnificent and amazing.

Go about 15 minutes earlier and drink some herbal tea and then they take you to your room and the interior design is so relaxing and soothing and after you’re done from your wonderful massage they take you to your relaxation area where they serve you apples and herbal tea and put some hot small cushion behind your back and on your shoulders, hmmmmm I can ‘t wait to have my next one :D

Playback

Imagine if playback buttons exist in our lives ;) I don’t think we’ll move forward ever … somewhere somebody wants to rewind a moment over and over again because they can’t get enough of or they’re not getting something right yet !!

So Sunday back to work and a friend simply said why check your email, just check it when you go in and frankly that didn’t seem like a bad suggestion at all ;P why haven’t I thought of that … what seemed such a taboo is so simple now .. maybe because I am totally relaxed …

The most achievement I will do, is cleaning my room which I started yesterday … totally turn over … clothes on the floor, stuff scattered everywhere … I already created a cleaningRoom playlist ;P to get me the mood and why not shake it while cleaning ;D now this needs a FF button ;)

I did a very good job for myself during this week … ;D

Lessons

dre1146l

As a lady, woman, girl, OK female :P I tend to question the sanity of men when they say comments that in their minds are fine. Haven’t they ever come across the other gender and taught that there are things you can say but don’t … don’t say everything that pops in your mind … think … watch TV .. take a hint …

“You look tired” … when clearly I have some makeup on … unless a woman begins a sentence with ‘I am tired’ then you can say ‘you kinda do, I have seen you run around all day’ … who wants to hear that !!! Especially if you’re feeling fine and someone comes along and says you look tired … well it’s a look I’m trying these days do you like it !!!

You sweat a lot or you have body problems and most of all you’re fat … LOL … they shock you to the core, seriously I can’t believe you just said that … now these guys I’m assuming haven’t actually had a meaningful conversation with a normal woman …

Commenting on your clothes … in a bad way … I for one thought that men don’t notice what you are wearing … well apparently I was wrong … ‘you seem to like wearing that, you wore it twice this week and why do you always wear sneakers, are they green too’ –me speechless-

It’s safe to assume that married men or men with sisters have these glitches figured out .. NOT … for my defence I tried to teach my big bro, ‘how many times have I told you, there are things you don’t say to a woman’ and he just laughs … but he’s my brother so whatever I tell him, he does the opposite … just to annoy me …

Talks to me when I am in the bathroom and the comments he throws my way … ‘stop it, move away from the bathroom doooor’

I think I lost weight … it shows right’ … ‘you’re still fat’ … ‘why do I even bother talking to you ما عندك نظر’ …

Look ‘الوحش’ … ‘how many times have I told you, don’t comment on my eating, leave me alone .. I am hungry’ .. –although truth to be told, I scare myself a little when I get hungry ;P -

When women need the blunt truth about their appearances they’ll head to their sisters or friends, that is what I do … always count on my sis to tell it to my face, ‘what do you think of that’, ‘NO’, ‘bas …’, ‘laa yelawe3 el-chabd’ …

So what is the safe response a man should have when asked a question by a woman … hmmmm … don’t really have the answer … Allah Ye3enhom ;P
