My Day

I got some searching to do and a report to write, so for change of scenery and some quiet time I went to a coffee shop to search and took my bro’s laptop and guess what it didn’t boot, it is official the HDD DIED!!! I think the poor thing spiralled itself to self destruction, last time I went to my bro’s room, I saw the laptop on the floor and I always tell him it is a laptop when you are done turn it off, hibernate the poor thing, standby, I literally smelled something burning from within, I opened it took it out and put it back in, yes it’s not hardwired to the motherboard ;P, so a trip to Hawally is a must and I might get him one of those cooling docking stations to give the poor thing a chance. The HDD started giving problems a while back so I took off my data ;P which isn’t much, anyways my bro doesn’t have anything on it, he just uses it for chatting, movies, web browsing, the usual. The good thing is that I get to pop it open later on because it is already dead, I have my cool tool set on standby.
There is something nasty going on with our network, I can’t point my finger at it. It is driving me crazy. I just discovered a software that comes with Microsoft exchange, Sybari, it is a content-management, antivirus, and e-mail security solution, where mostly you need to purchase a license. Supposedly there is a worm with its own SMTP engine fooling around and I can’t catch the source yet. And oh boy do I hate McAfee, who the fuck developed their management interface, so I suspect a machine and I want to force a scan or get the latest scan statistics, couldn’t figure it out. OK, the open ports a stupid ‘how to’ to answer my questions, a thing that can be done in minutes is taking hours!!! Good thing we are upgrading, starting from scratch, what we are currently deploying is a lousy excuse of an antivirus application, the poor technician is going to have a hell of a time with me standing over their head.
Sometimes you come across the right thing when you most need it …
One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.
