Working Environment
Posted by Bloggylife in thoughts on August 31, 2008
I just looked at him and thought, “Man, whatever they are paying you it’s not enough!”
I took my car to the gas station for oil change and a couple of days back it started making weird noises that the mechanic said it was due to the steering wheel oil. OK, that is a first, I didn’t know that the wheel needed oil and it was RED!!
The weather was humid and I couldn’t stand it, I was fidgeting restlessly, paying attention to the guy fearing he will faint in that creepy ceramic grave he’s into, looking up at my car. How would I go about pulling him out if something happens
Are you sure you want me to start the car?
Yes. Start it
Start it while you are under there, is this OK??
He took about 20 minutes to finish everything, poor guy he was soaking in his own sweat, he even took a moment to lay his head against the wall, I paid him and rushed home for a shower. Working in the open air is refreshing but NOT here in Kuwait. I stood for a couple of minutes and was about to take the hose and spray myself!!
Anyway seems my car is in better shape now, no noise and everything has been changed. Which reminds me, I think my brother forgot to change the car plates to the new numbering, he did the “tameen” but didn’t get the new numbering, we’ll see about that
In conclusion, having to work in a cool conditioned environment definitely has better leverage
IT Requirement

What I vision is contact lenses mouse. See my wrists are killing me from moving the mouse around all day. Sometimes it gets so painful I need to wear a muscle band
I’m a lefty who uses her right hand to navigate the mouse and if driving and feels like using one hand automatically right is utilized. So much pressure on the right hand
What is the alternative is to have a mouse as contact lenses that you can wear that doesn’t mean we eliminate the mouse, you can use that too. Just have a special button on the mouse when pressed, it will take the input from your eye movement to navigate the cursor and if you want to click on something, use the button on the mouse. Well this is just a prototype. See this way, you have two options, the traditional bulky mouse way or the swift eye movement, just switch between them. My hope for the future is to have the computer actually read my mind and does the job!
I know I can simply follow the proper procedure to ensure the safe use of a mouse. I think there is an appropriate mouse pad and how you hold the mouse and navigate, but I am not sure where to get all that. Yeah next time, I’ll rant about how my back is killing me from all the hunching and how the 1 cm away from screen is helping in the overall of my deteriorating health. Gotta check if I have complete health insurance!!
The Difference

What’s wrong with this picture?
If you live in Kuwait, you may notice it immediately
These are evacuating from New Orleans because of hurricane threat “Gustav”. The street is crowded and yet nobody seems to be using the emergency lanes!!
Dad’s Thoughts
Posted by Bloggylife in personal on August 30, 2008
“You don’t have a social life”
What would you say if someone told you that? What would you say if that came from your parent?
My dad was having one of these rare moments and discussing or simply viewing my life
It seems he doesn’t like what I do for a living. What you do is a “MAN’s” job. Haven’t you had enough, didn’t you learn everything you need to, you proved a point and now you need to rest
To be honest I believe he doesn’t fully comprehend what I do or he wouldn’t have said all that so gently
And yeah what’s with all people commenting about my “social skills”, I want to stick something on my forehead stating “allowed social anxiety”. WAllah I tried mingling with new girls over lunch and if there was a marathon for the fastest lunch to be munched down I would have a pretty good chance at winning. I think I am the normal one and they are not, it’s not my fault. The topics they talk about make you want to drive your head through a brick wall. But I believe my dad meant family affairs, that I don’t participate much, well sometimes I am too scarred to go, it’s like a zoo with thousands of kids running around and lunch time is hazardous!
Another thing, “workaholic”, that is just sad when it comes from your father who has been working for over 30 years. From my point of view, I like to get the job done and it is because of my concious, it’s fault not mine, I don’t like sticking around after working hours but sometimes I need to
“I need to incorporate more activities in my life”, you come tired. Again I think he wants me to stick around family
“What if you get married”, my current life style is not suitable for a married woman, OK what is my situation now, I am single, so who cares. I think he even said something about having kids
Of course the ultimate “women men discrimination”, you don’t need to get ahead in your job, what do you want to be … a manager! Actually NO, I want to head the company and preferably have my own someday
Of all the people in the world, it is hard for him to actually believe I am good at what I do
The thing is I normally do what I believe in and that in many cases is the opposite of what he wants. But at the end of the day, I know he wants the best for me and I don’t make it easy for him by just following exactly what he has in mind or simply the known and to give myself some credit, I sometimes do what he wants
Sylvester Stallone Movies
Posted by Bloggylife in entertainment on August 29, 2008
Don’t you sometimes reminisce about old movies and crave to see them, well what popped in my mind the last couple of weeks is “Tango and Cash”, so I started downloading it and then began to download Sylvester Stallone movies!
I downloaded a pretty good collection
The Good:
Tango and Cash: starring Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell, it’s about two of L.A.’s top rival cops who are framed and must work together to clear their names. I really enjoyed this movie, Sylvester is funny in it, what amazes me about him, is that each character he plays, he acts in a different fresh way there is no clear pattern. I have seen this movie many times and enjoy it everytime. Of course, compared to today’s movies with the same concept it is missing reality reasoning but it’s OK, I like it nevertheless
Assassins: starring Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore. Sylvester plays an assassin with principles. everytime he wants to retire he gets lured to accepting another high paid contract. Another assassin, Antonio, is obsessed with him and steals his contracts. Until Julianne, the hacker, becomes his target and Sylvester decided to protect her
Rocky: Need I say about this one, I love this movie alot. The way he acts, the funny scenario lines, the plot, director, etc. I actually saw this many times. It is about a small time boxer who calls himself the Italian stallion, who gets to fight the heavyweight champ. What I didn’t know is that Sylvester is the writer
First Blood (Rambo): Sylvester plays a Vietnam war vet, when abused by a small town’s police force, begins a one man war with it. I really didn’t understand why Rambo had to go to this extreme to express his frustration until the end of the movie when it all made sense. It is worth seeing
Judge Dredd: starring Sylvester Stallone, Diane Lane, Armand Assante and Rob Schneider. The last is a good addition to the movie cast. Sylvester plays the tough judge in the future justice system who is convicted for a crime he did not commit. This is a good movie full of action and good humor
Cliffhanger: I wasn’t sure where to categorize this one, I think it is a “3adi” movie. The weird thing is having John Lithgow from “3rd rock from the sun” act the vilan! I didn’t take him seriously. It’s about Gabe a mountain ranger and his partners who are tricked to rescue a group of thieves and help them track their suitcases which are scattered over the mountains
The Bad:
Cobra: The only good thing about this movie, is Sylvester wearing his shades, that’s it! The plot is about a city cop who is called to do the dirty work. He protects a witness from some serial killers. The director sucked big time, zooming in and out and going back and forth through scenes. Movie didn’t make sense at all
Demolition Man: It is not as bad as Cobra but it could have been so much better. Come on, Wesley Snipes in it. Everytime they have a Blade movie, I can’t look away. But Sandra Bullock gave the movie a goofy turn. In the future the world turns into a non-violent society. Until Wesley manages to escape in a ridiculous way and terrorizes the city, so they are forced to unfreeze Sylvester from confinement to pursue him and bring him in
Decision Thoughts
Posted by Bloggylife in personal on August 28, 2008
Decisions, if only one can make them for you! Or imagine if you have the possibility of seeing the outcome of each decision and you take your pick then
What does it mean when one is stubborn, it is really hard for me to ask for help, for example, I’ll be dying on the floor and still think I can manage on my own! And if only certain people can help me and I don’t like asking them for anything, I would rather die! that is how sick I am!!
But I believe I can justify this in me by saying because I am a big sister, I am always more comfortable giving help then asking for it, does that make sense ?? I’d like to think so …
I don’t know why I always take the hard road, does it have something to do with achievement or satisfaction or simply stupid, I’m not sure
A few days back I made a decision and when it is that fresh and raw I only see my point of view on it, I really don’t want to hear any one’s elses’ intake, especially the ones I don’t ask for their opinions
Each action and scenario that happens within that period, I see it as Allah trying to send me a message and I am more convinced and I pray “isti’7ara” and wait. One good thing is no matter how passionate I feel about what I decided, I don’t take the action immediately, I wait for it to simmer and see if I have a change of heart
Apparently … I am going through that … a change of heart … because I am reconsidering the whole thing because one of the least-opinion-I-care-about people just gave me their intake !!!
PS: BTW I like Blogger’s new dashboard interface design
Home Networking
Posted by Bloggylife in family, technology on August 13, 2008
So I am looking into improving our home network. The main DSL router is placed in the hall and my room is just across it, but for the wireless signal to reach my room is it kind of weak and it disconnects frequently and to just buy a long cable and plug it seems like a big hassle and I know my mother will never leave me in peace with a long wire dragging all the way to my room and besides my door wouldn’t close
I was telling my brother to bring someone to replace the TV wiring to our rooms with UTP cables, just for a couple of rooms if that can be done but still he didn’t look into this
I went to Jarir and got one of those powerline adapters, what they basically do is utilize the powerline wires to transmit the data
I got Aztech adapters, never heard of them before, for 32.500 KD you get two adapters and two 1 meter long UTP cables which are kind of short and some documentations and a CD. Haven’t look into those yet. Anyway it is straight forward, just get the two adapters out of the box, plug them in any power sockets, connect your laptop to one and the other adapter connect the modem to it and there you go, easy as that, no drivers needed or anything
It says it supports upto 85Mbps, haven’t tested that yet, I need to drag something internally and test the speed. But I noticed that if you ping the router, the average response time is around 4ms which is acceptable I guess, normally it’s less then 1ms if you’re going the normal way using switches

How do they work, well just brainstorming here, but I think it is the same as the broadcasting concept, it doesn’t actually know where the other adapter is plugged, maybe an electrician will be more useful as to how the electricity is distributed, hmmmm, anyway so if they data received is meant to the device connected to the adapter then accept it, if not, then drop it. Don’t take my word, search it
I have alot of wireless modems laying around so I think I’ll just buy a couple more adapters to span our network more over the house instead of using an extender which gives me a headache. My bro had a wireless modem installed in his room, I told him to connect via cables and disable the wireless which you can do under your wireless configuration page, just as below

The other option, hide AP, won’t let your SSID be broadcasted, that is you have to manually insert your wireless network name into your laptop’s wireless configuration, for more security but there are softwares that detect wireless networks that don’t broadcast their SSID
Well that’s done, I believe my next move is to check my two lil bros’ PC, I think both are screwed. I am not sure if the antivirus is even running there! Anyway we’ll see about that laters
eMule Speed Transfer Problems
Posted by Bloggylife in troubleshooting on August 12, 2008
Ever since I upgraded to the latest eMule version 0.49b, I have been having transfer speed issues. I didn’t notice it immediately because I wasn’t downloading anything. But as I started to download, I only went up to 4Kbps!
I thought well maybe what I was trying to download was not available on many resources and is being downloaded by many people! -kinda kidding myself-
I waited for a couple of days for the speed to pick up, but it didn’t, each file was downloading at bytes speed, which was ridiculous
I checked eMule help guide and this is what I did, I set the speed settings
Options -> Connection -> Wizard and choose your connection type or just customize it which is what I did
I remember setting this at the beginning of the eMule fresh installation, I don’t know how upgrading affected this part
So now I am happily kicking off at 50Kbps which is more reasonable and more liking it
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Posted by Bloggylife in entertainment on August 11, 2008

If you haven’t seen this movie … then DON’T … and if you did, then I sympathize with you!
Hideous and awful on so many levels! Through out the movie I was waiting for it to start!! Talk about boring, no action, no story line, lame lame lame, the acting sucked BIG time and to top all that, it was cut in so many places for reasons no one will figure out!!!! Just like that, you are turned from a scene to another … weeeee3 … in a nutshell … terrible
I’m hoping the next two movies I have lined up don’t disappoint me, Tropic Thunder and Hellboy II
IT for Family
Posted by Bloggylife in family, troubleshooting on August 10, 2008
My father gave me his laptop to look into
It’s an old gateway, 1.4 Ghz, Pentium 4, 256 RAM and it doesn’t even have a built-in wireless, I remember last time I had to go buy him a card. Yeah not to forget a dead battery that won’t even charge!
So for me to fix his laptop, of course I need Internet connection and since I can’t connect through the magical radio waves from the comfort of my room I needed to take the whole thing and sit within the cable reach to the DSL modem
If you have a laptop that you use for work, why give it to kids, every game ever existed is installed and along with it all the web toolbars out there!!! Everything runs at start up. Virus definition outdated. Windows update never installed anything. Total mess
As I was scanning the 30 GB space, it took 3 hours!! Of course who would blame it! And then it hit me and I remembered, I had a RAM chip in my handbag somewhere
Well how it got into my handbag that’s another story, but I plugged it in and the speed doubled
He was asking me about buying a new laptop and I told him what he used it for and then he said “What about this air one, I heard about MAC air”
“Ouch!!!”
Finally I am going for MAC hunting, though not for me but for dad, nevertheless, it is exciting. I’ll list all the stores that sell the MAC goods and we’ll schedule the shopping later
