Workout Thoughts

workout

“Oh my GOD, 2 KG!!”

My instructor was gasping loudly!

All I was thinking was, “hmmm, good, el-hamdellah it’s not more than that!”

I haven’t been to the gym, for over two months now! My instructor took my measurements and of course, I gained centimetres in all the wrong places! Why can’t one, gain in wrists or ankles, that way we can gain weight and loose it without affecting the way we dress or how we feel about ourselves!

I started my workout and she was on my heels!

Faster, higher, stronger ..

“you’re back to square one”

COME ON …

I couldn’t skip the stations I hated! The squatting, the leg kicking, she was following my every move with this judgemental look in her eyes.

OK, I know I did wrong by myself, but I’m back ;P Isn’t that enough?

Been two days, the hardest thing is getting myself to the gym, but once I’m done, I feel good about myself, that I went and exercised, and it lowers my stress level and after a hot shower I’m satisfied ;)

I promised myself if I went regularly this week to the gym, I’ll treat myself to something special, a massage or go buy myself something. Just to keep me motivated.

6ab3an, my muscles and my sides hurt with every move, even driving, turning the steering wheel a full turn, makes my arms ache all over, but I deserve it. I should at least workout three times a week. Yesterday, I dreamt someone was poking a sharp object in my back and woke up from the pain, it was all workout-related, adjusted my sleeping position and slept away :)

It’s good to take care of yourself, take the time and workout, because if you leave it for a while and come back, it’ll hurt badly, take it from me. Insha’allah the results show within two weeks, I just hope my body tightens up a bit.

Lonely Thoughts

It’s just so comfortable, this corner of mine.

Even if I sit there all by myself, alone, I know it’s still mine.

People come and go, they see me here all alone.

They pass me by, maybe say hello.

But eventually they’ll carry on and off they go.

They have their own lives, their own dreams.

This corner …

To them it’s dark …

To me it’s home …

To them it’s cold …

To me it’s warm …

People are scared of being alone …

I am … or used to be …

I made peace, I’m at ease …

Many years from now, maybe they’ll get to know …

This feeling … of being all alone …

But I’ll be in my corner …

Not afraid of the unknown …

Because I already know what they don’t know …

Eventually you’ll be alone.

Green WiFi

I listened on the radio about this charity organization that provides Internet access to developing countries. I admit that I thought, do they actually need Internet access, wouldn’t they rather have food, shelter, clean water, medical care, etc.

internet-to-poor-people

Then they talked about how access to all the information helped the locals with their farming techniques and now more children attend schools rather than work on farms because they could afford all books online.

And since these countries have no source of electricity, this organization utilizes solar-power panels to provide power to all devices.

The Green WiFi, is committed to providing solar powered access to global information and educational resources for developing regions and K-12 school children striving for knowledge in a digitally divided world.

I was impressed and admired the founders of such organizations, the ones that give in order for others to have.

It makes me wonder, what am I doing to contribute in this world!

E-mail Etiquette

People should follow certain rules when exchanging official emails.

I do complain that IT email exchange is always stiff and boring!

Please provide 1.2.3, problems, requests, analysis, reports, etc. Include a happy face once in a while, a joke perhaps … but what I hate is this …

FYI, a simple email with FYI, I sometimes want to reply, WTF!, They want you to scroll down to see the original correspondents! So you couldn’t actually type: for your information!!

Taking the time to properly construct an email with …

Dear (person name/designation)

This is for your information

(Regards/Thanks)

(senders name) -which can be automatically added through outlook’s signature configuration

… isn’t hard, nor does it take that much time!!

Unless you’re using one finger to type, people who do that should simply be tortured! Because it’s a complete painful agony to watch them raise that index finger way high in the air and then pointing to the letter and descend in excruciating slowlyness and ‘click’ lock down that letter – off topic ;) -

Or just simply forward the email and I’ll understand that I’m required to read it through, unless I have an IQ of a golden fish!!!

PLZ, another thing I hate, it’s not difficult to write please!!

Ya3nee, when you get an email reporting a problem and then someone within that group sends it again, though you received it the first time, with “PLZ handle”, WTH, you knew I got it, why are you sending it to me again cc-ing “أمة لا اله الا الله” !!!

Which brings me to the CC field, this is not a field to use to show others that YOU have work to do!! CC-ing the whole country won’t prove that you’re such a busy person, especially if the subject is so LAME, that no one gives a damn …

always_use_bcc

People who send emails with spelling mistakes, OK it happens, I just sent one lately, but there are people that if you read their emails a thousands times, you need to pick the telephone up and ask, “what the hell is your problem”, you just get a migrane trying to decypher the language they used. Have your secretary send emails and pleeeease use spell checker.

These rules don’t apply to friends, do whatever you want to do, when sending emails to friends, but official emails, keep it professional :D

VeriSign & Private Domains

Did you know that if you required an SSL certificate for your organization, your domain information needs to be public.

When registering a domain name you can have all information related to your organization, assigned personal, address, etc. hidden under the hosting company or register.com.If this is the case, VeriSign will not issue a digital certificate. You need to make the information public, at least till you get it.

VeriSign contacts you in person after placing the request, asks a couple of questions, then forwards you the certificate files.

Dark Thoughts

If I were to express myself openly, with no consequences on earth and in the afterlife, with no trace of remorse and my over loaded conscious comes to a complete halt …

many people will seize existing … period!

Simple IT

gnotifier

How gmail notifier is helping me at work?

Whenever the exclamation mark (!) comes on, something is wrong.

So as you can see, this is a snapshot, from my work PC, our ISP disconnected us again Internationally. wAllah, I don’t know if they’re doing it on purpose or not, at home my KEMs 1Mb account, is slow, I’m not sure if they are throttling traffic or not, but when I go to testing sites, it shows 800Kb/sec, but the browsing is slow and no downloads at all. Are they prioritizing these sites, maybe …

What’s with these International fiber cuts?? It’s reported 6 STM-1 lines are down, the data rate of each one is 155Mb/sec, so that’s about near 1Gb … How long has this been going, I believe since three weeks …

These are simple utilities that might be taken for granted but are useful for on the spot detection and troubleshooting. Sij ena once, I got the (!) mark and it turned out that the application itself got corrupted and I had to uninstall it … ya3nee salfa … but it’s a nice way to keep your eyes on things in a simple way.

Sleepless Thoughts

Being nice to people and treating them well isn’t that hard

It’s staying that way, even if they treat you like crap!

It gets harder and harder as you get through life …

G-Wireless Clients & N-Wireless Routers

After renewing our Internet subscription, I went for shopping in Hawali and got a Belkin N Wireless Router. True, our household has no devices with n-wireless cards, I just wanted it for wider coverage. To reach downstairs for the extender to work, which I didn’t try yet!

I configured it and plugged it in. I noticed that my wireless speed is 5.5 Mbps and if it reached the maximum, it’ll be around 11 Mbps. To double check, I dragged and dropped files from my laptop on our network storage and the speeds were lower than 300 KB/sec!

I know, I couldn’t expect the speed to increase over the max. 54 Mbps supported by b/g wireless network, but to improve a little because I can get a stronger signal thus increasing the speed a bit. But the opposite happened, my speed degraded.

I double checked my wireless configuration and driver updates. Then my router configuration and I configured my channel width as 40 MHz, thinking it’ll offer me more throughput, since I thought it’ll allow more data to be carried. Anyhow, this wasn’t the case.

The Channel-bonding trick can provide a 10 to 20 Mbps throughput increase, but usually works best under strong signal conditions. As signal levels drop, using channel bonding becomes much less effective in providing a throughput boost.

I configured the “bandwidth” back to the default 20 MHz and my wireless connection shows at times  (48 – 54) Mbps, my file exchange is at 1.17 MB/sec.
