Wrath of the Net. Admins

Simple, there is a line, that one shouldn’t cross!

I like my supervisor, and when I like someone I hate to see others mess around with them.

My supervisor got into a quarrel with a person from another department and he came to me to vent.

Me: Do you want me to do something about it

Supervisor: -laughing- kafooo wAllah, picking my side

I wasn’t joking, see we the IT are always at the bottom of the chain, everyone is stepping on us, running crying to management, IT blocked this, won’t allow this, endless ridiculous requests! We really work hard but no one actually feels it, people only notice when things go bad and I don’t blame them for that.

I already was contemplating the punishment and blacklisted that person. Inflect excruciating pain, not necessary block his access but reduce it speed ;P assign lower priority to all activities, loop their requests … luckily for that employee, they apologized and made amends with my supervisor. So all is good, the gloves are off.

    - Replace recently used files with empty ones with the same name
    - Redirect *some* traffic to 127.0.0.1
    - Sudden restart (use once)
    - Cap network bandwidth (not just Internet)
    - Rename outlook archive filename before restarting
    - Rename user profile directory name before restarting
    - Play error sounds on the computer at random times
    - Pop-up attack
    - Redirect all emails to junk

    Need more? Just ask.

    ROFL!! LOOOL

Great ideas man, now I want someone to make a wrong move ;P

Run their virus scan forever, that should eat up all their CPU LOL

The antivirus doesn’t eat CPU cycles, but rather slows the disk to a crawl, especially if configured to NOT skip HUGE files.

    Run this on a Linux box: dd if=/dev/random of=./svcchost.exe bs=1G count=60

That would create a 60GB file of random garbage. Dump it on their PC. Or reduce the size and drop multiple ones.

This is also fun, because all of a sudden, disk space would just disappear.

Of course it’s not real-life stories! These are classics in the admins’ world. Check out the archives (started some time in the ’90s).

It is very very true! We are at the bottom of the chain! Even when it comes to construction projects IT is a joke with them and I get really really pissed! So I get my point across and I get pissed as hell!

I squeeze them as much as I can!

yeah, we’re struggling right this moment, ppl always want zero down time!!! Even when that’s not an option.

  11. #11 by MBH on June 8, 2009 - 12:46 AM

Zero down time IS an option; just as long as it’s not their time…

  12. #12 by Bloggylife on June 9, 2009 - 9:47 PM

Believe me sometimes a downtime is a must, in a perfect scenario, OK, but it costs money, time and loads of efforts!

MBH, don’t disagree or I’ll hurt you bad ;D

Bloggylife, ummm … How bad? :p

Before bringing our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software live back in May, we had a few stuck issues regarding backup software that had to be solved in order to carry on with the tasks to complete the pre-go-live process. The business had to LOSE half a business day for us to finish our work within the tight time-frame left for us, as all our previous tasks had to be scheduled for Thursdays after 2PM till Saturday 7 AM (including Friday, all 3 days none-stop, if we had to).

Thank God that everything went smooth & without hiccups and the team composed from various companies was able to pull the job within the allocated time-slot.

So I guess this means that I agree with you… too bad I wanted to see how you were gonna hurt me :p

I’m glad you agree :D keep the monster at bay ;P
