Are left-handed people smarter?
Posted by Bloggylife in thoughts on June 5, 2009
Yep. According to researcher Alan Searleman, southpaws have higher IQs, solve problems better and enjoy more extensive vocabularies than righties. Lefty cases in point: Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, for starters. Not to mention every U.S. president since 1981, except Bush
The study asked participants to perform different tasks and see which side they use to perform the task.
He found that people who were “true left-handers”, who did everything on their left side, from kicking a football to picking up a glass of water, scored one-third more highly on vocabulary tests and twice as well on problem-solving tasks. People who were found to be “mixed”, using both their left and right hands, ears, eyes and feet for different tasks, achieved the same scores as “true right handers”.
I’m mixed, I kick with my right, mix with my left, use scissors with my right, so I’m not a true lefty ;P
On the downside, left-handers were not so good at remembering things. “Although left-handed people had poorer memories they were twice as good at all the problem-solving tasks,” he said.
I have a complete bad memory span! See my password keeping record, it takes me a day to remember, but I am good with faces, but I cannot pinpoint the names
Also, they tend to be more creative in arts and music. Count me out.
Despite the fact that one in 10 people is left-handed, it was once seen as a sign of the devil. The word “sinister” means “left” in Latin. Youngsters used to have their left hands tied behind their backs by teachers to force them to write with their right hands. Left-handed people have struggled for years in a world of right-handed sports equipment and items such as steak knives, cheque books and pairs of scissors.
LOL, I read once that lefty feel stepped over because they represent on 10% of the population
Some kind of discrimination, there not been looking after!
Previous research has suggested that left-handed people are less ticklish than right-handed people, are more clumsy, and have a shorter lifespan.
I’m a very ticklish person, my brothers often drive me crazy by tickling me, and of course the clumsiest person ever!! Pumping into things and spilling food over myself, shorter lifespan ??? That’s way. lefty’s are only 10%
