To Cinescape Kuwait

Have old movies screenings, there are lots of good old movies that I would go watch. They can offer free seats but charge for the snacks and sell advertisement slots within the show. Or just charge a small fee.

Run movie marathons, I for one, once watched all “The Matrix” movies in one shot. I wouldn’t mind watching “Lord of the Ring”, “Ice Age” or “Die Hard”. Imagine spending the whole day watching movies, who hasn’t done it before.

Of course, we all have our main complaint against movie screening here in Kuwait, censoring! But I think they have taken it too far, not only deleting love scenes but also violent scenes.

I recently went to Spike Lee’s latest movie and it was just like jumping gaps!

People going to a war movie are expecting to see violence and it’s their responsibility to take a look at the movie’s rating, if you get shocked easily then this movie genre isn’t for you.

Cinescape puts in mind that regardless of the movie’s rating, all ages will go to the movie, so they’ll edit the movie with a 3 year old as audience in mind. I think they presume, if they start forcing age limit, they’ll loose money. How many times have you seen babies in seats next to you in a movie that is way over their age limit!

I still like to see them implement a movie marathon and old movie screening, even for old Egyptian movies, we have huge fan base here, to attract audience, attending is free :)

yallah Cinescape give it a go and add a form in which you receive suggestions and ratings, that would be cool.

    0_0 what they do :P

ba3deen what other option do we have?

They have mutilated the movies beyond recognition! The plots make no sense at all!

You other option is to go back to the good old days: Stay home with the family and watch a movie without frustrating shawerma[1]. You also get to pause the movie before running to the toilet.

[1] shawerma: Excessive cutting of a movie.

    (I made up the term!)

LOOOL @ shawerma term, now I’m craving some :D

My bro and I thought of building a small in-house cinema, but turns out it’s a bit expensive :P and we both got busy.

You know before cinescape had breaks, not anymore! No bathroom or prayer breaks, so we always take in consideration run-time to put timing in perspective.

When I used to go to KNCC, I wouldn’t eat popcorn, so that I don’t get thirsty, drink water/juice, then would need to run to the toilets!

A home theater isn’t expensive at all, but it’s not worth making if your room is small.

The optimum viewing distance is calculated by the diagonal * 2.54 * 3. So for a 65″ Plasma TV, the best place to sit is 65*2.54*3 = 4.95 meters away from the TV.

Slap in 7 speakers of surround system and you’re good to go. (Plus a subwoofer!).

The whole thing should cost about 1200-1700 KD only.

I agree 100%, they should have Sci-fi weeks and certain screenings to attract different level of people.. not just getting good blockbusters.. the problem is that they get straight to DVD movies and screen them!

MBH, even this kind of budget needs to be planned. We were thinking of HD projector, screen, speakers, but then we had to take the space measurement and idle location since we were aiming for the basement, let me ignite the idea again to my bro.

Marzouq, they can implement many ideas but don’t. I think because there is no competition.

I wouldn’t recommend using projectors. They look great in showrooms or those cinema rooms in showrooms, but after some use, they lose brightness and require you to change the internal light. And they’re expensive.

If the competition was another local company, you can bet it’s gonna be owned by the same people. Think MTC & Wataniya.

yeah we need to include maintenance in the overall decision.

Also, isn’t Bobyan and KFH owned by the same people as well :P Give people a false sense of variety ya3nee or competition ?!

I think we have the best Cinemas in the world.. but we are people who just like to complain.. the facilities do not exist in consistancy in any other continent.

I contacted KNCC once and to the people who didnt know this, but they do no censor the films. The films are sent directly to the ministry of information and a censor board committee chops up the films and sends them back to them..

all this so the minister of information doesnt take the stand in the Majlis el Uma by the extremists who wait for any slip up from anyone to cause havoc…

we need to complain against the ministry of information and not cinescape..

    thats what i think!

    Capuccino,

I’d love to agree with you but I can’t.

We’re not asking for zero censorship, but for a reasonable one. Shawerma-style slicing is not reasonable at all!!

Watch the movies on MBC network and One TV. They have the best cutting I’ve ever scene. They even filter obscene words without cutting the scene itself; just the audio.

You’d think a MINISTRY can’t hire 2-3 people to do that?? Or contract with a TV station that already has the staff???

If the people can’t put pressure on the ministry/minister, then it will work by putting pressure on Cinescape itself, but not going to the slice & dice show they call movies.

When Cinescape suffers from enough loss, they’ll be forced to do the right thing.

Capuccino you got one thing right, we love to complain :P But mainly I was giving out suggestions to the movies they are playing, but censoring or not, they can get better.

I agree with MBH, we want a reasonable one not Shawerma style :P

    Now I want Shawerma xD
