The Journey
Posted by Bloggylife in thoughts on August 25, 2009
Going from point A to B is a plan, the shortest path is the straight line.
The issue is not the time you take to reach your destination, it’s how smooth the process is!
It hit me, that why do I always expect things to go smoothly as if it’s the default?
Maybe it’s meant for us to encounter a bump or two or even more along the way, that’s the norm. If it is smooth and dandy all the way, then you have hit the jackpot.
You are always told that you learn from problems and issues you face in life.
OK, seriously, how much can one learn. Isn’t there a limit, give us a break, enough lessons about life for a while!
When pursuing a goal, a plan is formed and tasks structured to be executed.
But it doesn’t go according to plan most of the time!!!
Everyone has gone through that process. Go back in time and remember a journey and how it all went down. A simple task or errand you did.
For me, the ones that surface first are the toughest, the roughest goals I achieved and the ones I failed to achieve.
Maybe because those are the ones hard-wired to memory, because emotions are involved. Where as if everything had gone as you planned, your heart doesn’t skip a beat, you don’t break into sweat, you don’t experience the adrenaline rush when things go astray. So you have to go farther down memory lane to remember.
When you start going down a road, your focus is the finish line, your target. You forget to enjoy the ride, stopping to smell the roses and taking a deep breath, or even picking up a stone to smack whom ever is bothering you on your way there
You may make it to the end or not. The most important thing, is that you had the courage to take that first step.

Dubai Roads
Posted by Bloggylife in family, personal on August 23, 2009

Driving is one thing, driving in Dubai is another and finally driving in Dubai with your mom next to you is a total other matter
The roads in Dubai are a bit complicated compared to the infrastructure we have here in Kuwait. If you miss a turn on a high way, khalas you lost your chance, it’s very hard to do a U-turn as we have here with our highway exits.
Even with a GPS stuck to the window shield, we got lost!! The GPS looses it sometimes and places us in weird locations
You’d see a sign giving a direction to a road, if you reach that road its name is different and then on the GPS it has a third name. Not to forgot the commercial maps we took from the hotel concierge, but believe it or not, we found Dubai Outlet Mall with that map with my sis directions
– family scores -
The GPS helped a lot, if it weren’t for it, I’d never drive there. Even their internal roads are being contructed, we found ourselves ending up in closed dark alleys!
If we can’t find our destination on the GPS we search for something near and go there and just manage from there.
When we got lost going to Outlet Mall, we found the Chinese Dragon Market so we went in
We also, came across Dubai Fabrics Market, Vegetable and Fruit Market, you see where I’m going with this
We rented a Toyota – Corolla for 90 Dirhams per day, I waived the extra insurance, and get this if you are 25 and below they won’t insure you
But since I’m 26 they allowed me to take their car. There is also an extra charge of 5 Dirhams everytime you pass their “Salik” bridges.
Driving in Dubai is less aggressive than here, people will actually let you pass, stop and make way and most importantly stand in line. Of course we saw the occasional road rage and madness but not compared to Kuwait drivers.
If I get another chance to drive there again, it’ll be with a fresh formatted brain, because I have no recollection of the roads and sites, that’s how messed up my mental road map of Dubai is, well I do remember Maktoum Bridge!
If you decide to go for a visit and want to drive, pack an updated GPS and prepare for getting lost
Mini Vacation
Posted by Bloggylife in family, personal on August 21, 2009
Took a small break with the family and headed to Dubai. I’m so glad we did this trip. I got confused about Ramadan and thought it might be Saturday/Sunday so I scheduled our return Friday, good thing that Ramadan is tomorrow
It wasn’t crowded and the weather was bearable, it’s always a good deal to just leave everything behind and take some time off.
I’ll be posting about that trip and driving on crazy under construction roads. We got lost a lot ;P but it was FUN and frustrating at the same time because my two brothers don’t know when it’s time to just shut up.
We managed to pass “Salik” bridges 18 times, if you use them, you need to pay a fee! I thought I should charge them for having such messy roads and no clear signs!!!
So Ramadan is here and everytime, I feel the same, that I’m not ready! And I feel the same way when it’s about to end, that I’m not ready for it to finish. I’m not sure what the feeling is about and how to get the “ready” vibe on ;P
One thing I hate about Ramadan is how people relate to food, you would think people will consume less but it’s the opposite. My mom always thinks that the most appropriate time to ask for “Laban” is to ask me as I’m heading back from work or before “futoor” and I have to drive like crazy! The co-ops always seem to be full and I feel like I’m the only one standing there with my “Laban” for “futoor” and mini cornflakes for “so7oor”.
We are one of the families who have many options on the first day only “أمي تكون شادة حيلها” then it’s soup – prayer – main dish scenario.
Driving is another thing, remember “Better late than never”. If you don’t want to live, it’s your own life and there are many ways to take it, just don’t drag another innocent one with you!!!
ohhhhh and the BIG thing is me going through caffeine withdrawal x( ouch … I think it’ll take me a week to be fully must-have-coffee-in-the-morning FREE
Mubarak 3alakom el-shahar

It’s finding yesterday’s take-out untouched

Long Week
Posted by Bloggylife in personal on August 6, 2009

Has it been a week already? Seems longer, I’m not sure anymore, my brain feels numb and my body drained.
I filed for a vacation and it got refused!!! The reason is, all of us are over worked, I guess that means I need to suck it up! I was instructed to shift it. Whatever …
That’s what I don’t get, shouldn’t our kind be granted special treatment, I should be given a week getaway in a cool island.
I became one of those -milaq- who send emails at midnight! But it doesn’t count, since it happened once I think.
I’m getting attached to the people I work with. It just makes me uncomfortable, I notice their mood and ask if they are down and try to cheer them up offff I can’t help it.
Right now, I feel my brain slowing down and I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Waking up, having coffee, breakfast, roaming with no particular destination in mind, planning on impulse …
