Fire Alarm!
Posted by Bloggylife in personal, UK on October 19, 2009
It’s about 1AM in the morning here and they decided to have a fire alarm test! Even if you were deaf, your hearing sense will come back! The alarm is located in each room exactly in the middle of the ceiling.
I tried to ignore it, then thought maybe it’s for real, let me check what the others are doing.
I’m in my PJs, I put a coat over me and wore my “lafa” and my trainning shoes and stood in the corridor, then doors began to open. I asked is this for real? We all gathered it was a testing fire drill.
So we headed out and as I was standing this girl asks me where I’m from and it turns out she is from Oman and lives couple of doors ahead. So I made a new friend.
Now all I have to do is figure out a way to go back to sleep with all this heat I’m feeling! I can’t open the windows because yesterday drunk kids woke me up at 2.30AM! And we don’t have an A/C to turn on xo what to do???
My lectures start 9.15 AM, all I’m sure of is, I need a big cup of coffee to kick start my day.
My Dinner
Posted by Bloggylife in food, UK on October 17, 2009
The food here is expensive, if you compare how much to dine-out at Pizza hut here and back home!
I haven’t fully settled down and the dorm room isn’t equipped with much, so I’ve been eating cornflakes, sandwiches and not cooking much, I started with eggs since I got a small pan. Today I decided to make pasta

Since the kitchen is located where I sleep, I couldn’t sauté garlic or onion, so the ready made olive oil was a perfect thing.

This I know my sis would absolutely LOVE, look at that tomato so ripe and red, delicious :D

من الطفاقة and the fact I was so hungry I forgot to add cheese
and don’t be surprised I don’t have any forks yet so I had to eat with a spoon. The result was good considering I didn’t have a full equipped kitchen to operate with
Plus the dish was simple, I think tomorrow, I’m going to use the oven

MAC-ness
Posted by Bloggylife in technology, thoughts, UK on October 16, 2009
The computer services director was talking about the importance of installing an anti-virus software of personal laptops and the university can not provide one to their students for licensing issues but recommended some free ones, like AVG, which I have installed on my laptop.
One question was asked, “what is recommended for a mac?”
The director wasn’t aware of free mac software, but then this debate started that for a mac you don’t need an anti-virus!
“mac doesn’t need one”
“I’ve had mine for over 6 years, no anti-virus software installed and no problems at all”
OK this is madness
anti-virus applications are now more than scanning and protecting the computers from viruses, these are the modules in my current AVG software.

I’ve disabled the resident shield because it’s scans, real-time, files you are working with, it’s annoying and if you are viewing a video, the experience is terrible.
Some argue that mac infections are low because not that many use them compared to windows and also because the majority use windows thus more hate it
From an attacker point of view, target the largest market share.

We are four all together, one didn’t show up, two Chinese, an Indian and myself. I only remember one name “Kai” because it’s cool
and I think the other is “Eric” that’s his English name.
All the Chinese people I’ve met and they are quiet a lot here, have two names, Chinese and English, because as one said, it’s very hard to pronounce our names.
We sat with our supervisor, he asked us to write down our home address, he looks at us and said:
“So you’ve come a long way from your countries, was it is straight forward or it took you a while to get here”
The Indian said: “Well I’ve been in UK for 5 years and living in London so it was straight forward for me and didn’t have problems moving here”
I was going to “أتحلطم” that getting the freaking visa was a nightmare, but it was “Eric’s” turn to speak.
Eric: “I came on a bike and he -pointing to Kai- walked”!!
Me trying not to FREAKING laugh LOL, maskeeeeeen, he understood the question wrong and was speaking of getting here from their dorm. The supervisor didn’t even correct him
We just sat there in complete silence, I didn’t want to open my mouth
…..
“OK, we’ll meet regularly …” continued the supervisor
Don’t know how I’m going to spend this year with the two of them Eric and Kai speaking Chinese all the time, I need to tell them to stop it. One more thing, they are all TALL, you see Asian people somehow short but masha’Allah all the ones here are TALL.
My Dreams
Posted by Bloggylife in personal on October 15, 2009
I had a dream, I’m at my old job
They moved me in a big office, with a bathroom inside, two PCs though I already had those, and two TVs
It was a nice room …
Why all this now? I’m leaving … I said
This is just to make you comfortable, stay here until it’s time for you to go …
I thought, it’s not a scheme to make me stay is it, because I’m already gone
What do you think … this …

or this …

So we are destined to meet again! In my graduation project, we used VHDL to design a part of our complete computing device. I nicknamed it: Very Hard Dick-headed Loser who came up with it
I faced a hard time with it as you can tell
but it is required in my course now
Java is also a part of it all, I need to refresh my Java badly.
My programme has about 15 students, 3 girls including me, and most students are from China!
We had a little test to assess our knowledge, I think I got three questions right and left all else blank, I couldn’t remember anything … is this a bad start! I couldn’t remember what (*x) in C language meant, is it to convert an integer to char, I wasn’t sure so I left it blank! We were required to design circuits, OK pass on that, I didn’t understand the question aslan! hmmmmm, we’ll get the feedback tomorrow, I’m thinking I’m going to be at the bottom. I’ve no recollection, I do need to refresh but we are going to have introductory courses next week so that’ll help.
We had an option to enroll in C language, isn’t it dead and replaced with C++ with all the object oriented concept from when Java came out ???
They had a health and safety session to familiarize us with all the safety procedures, they are quiet organized, you aren’t allowed to plug in any electronic device, unless it is tested and is safe to use.
One idea about Kuwait they have, is we are sleeping on money beds, seriously we are better off than others, but I for one ain’t sleeping on one, do you know any ??? Most Kuwaiti’s “فخفخة على الفاضي” living from paycheck to paycheck!
On my university email they sent out security alerts, this has been stolen, suspicious person spotted roaming around campus and ran away when security personnel approached him! OK, why do I need to be notified of that!!!
Tomorrow they’ll assign us to our groups
YUP we have no say in it, as they say this happens in the real world, most academics have no idea what happens in the real world

I’m not really sensitive about how old I am. I always used to add a year to my actual age, madree laish, but the only time I got my age exactly when someone asked me, was when I turned 25, you can’t mess that up! other than that I have to think for a second, how old am I.
I’m 27 years old today
Is there something special I’m going to do, don’t think so, especially since I’m away. What I’m going to do tomorrow, go to the city and walk around perhaps. Unpack and sort my things out.
