I’m still trying to figure out Google wave and haven’t read too much about it and mainly used it so far in a manner of normal chat and emails.
I’m just going to point out the things I ponder from my scratching the surface of Google Wave.
- I still don’t get the live wire update, as soon as I lock down a character in one end the other end sees it, is it feasible performance wise and also in the real world I don’t think it is practical practice, one always read proofs before submitting.
- In an email, you have the “To”, “Cc” and “Bcc” field, currently in Google wave there is only one field which is basically the “To” in an email. I’m sure that’ll be put in somehow.
- I think wave clients will come out just like email/twitter/chat clients. Someone somewhere will give it a try. Though it’s a bit tricky, because do you want to be notified of all new waves and/or updates of waves. I think that can be managed through settings somehow.
- In the navigation box, there’s Inbox, All, By Me, what’s the difference? Also, if you hover over them there are options, move up/down, which basically moves the option up and down and then there is set colour, which just sets the background of that option to your selected colour. I thought it would tag the waves within that particular category with the selected colour but it didn’t! Strange option, didn’t see the use of it.
- Could someone please tell me, how to delete a wave indefinitely! It just sits there in the trash.
I still need to figure out and be comfortable with waving
Also, having your own wave server!

Wouldn’t be easier for us commentors, if you had numbers instead of bulletins? :p
1) It’s a collaboration framework. The see-as-they-type feature is great because it simulates real conversations (face-to-face), so you can reply to something while it’s being typed & there’s no need to save, review, then change, if you can alert others of certain points to be changed.
2) Again, it’s a collaboration software, so don’t compare it to emails. Compare it to Google Docs. It is true that Docs has the ability to add read-only users and Wave doesn’t, but that feature has been requested and people have voted on it a lot, so it should make it at some point.
3) Wave requires HTML5, so you’ll need a good browser to support it. It’s full of AJAX and javascript so it may be heavy for mobiles for the time being.
As for notifications: Instant notifications are out of question. They’re very abusive! I think a daily or an hourly digest of all changes is a much better idea.
4) Inbox: Waves that are not archived
All: All waves
By Me: Waves created by you (not ones by others but you’re part of)
5) You can’t delete waves, currently. Clicking the delete button puts the wave in the trash. It means you no longer receive updates from the changes in it.
The option to delete people from a wave is not yet possible (grayed out). It will be available soon.
Currently, all waves are stored on Google’s servers, so watch out of what you type there :p
I haven’t bothered to run my own Wave server. Not until I get some basic features implemented as mentioned above.
I hope this helps.

Some things may not make sense at first, experiment and you’ll get used to it

MBH, you can wipe away your tears
I numbered them hehehe
1. Since in the future you can turn the feature off, I’m OK with it, it is useful but not in all cases.
2. It’s a collaboration tool, but isn’t aiming to replace emails in their most primitive use, then this feature should be included, it has to be. Also, from a spamming point of view, you should know about that
Even if I build my own wave server, which will be for fun only, since maleee khilq maintain it and with my luck it’ll probably crash on each clock cycle! But I wanna read/see about it.
3baid, exactly! experimenting ignoring your frustration/excitement but you get used to it

I’m just as confused as you with a few things! Sometimes its annoying when it doesn’t update or sync, then there is a problem of colabborating.. sometimes its slow …
Even if someone writes something there is no way to notify you of it, there has to be some integration between the google services and so that you can really untilize it, also as you said people just jumping into conversations!

Marzouq, it’s still mature so there are lots of issues, I also face sync and disconnection problems too!
