My Big Bro
Posted by Bloggylife in family, personal on January 10, 2009
My big brother and I were close since we were kids. I can tell tales of our mishaps and sneak outs. I know I always complain about them, but I love them so much. I can’t begin to imagine life without them. My big brother is a different kind of man, he has so many qualities that I hope whom ever I end up with has.
No matter how much I want to talk about him, I’d never do him justice.
When I have my crazy moments and get angry for no reason, he just stares at me. He has nothing to prove, because he’s sure of who he is. He does what he believes is right, even if all people around him think otherwise.
He’s so forgiving unlike me, I wish I had this in me. He doesn’t hold grudges, even if he wanted to. I wish I was like him. Life is easy around him.
He’s unpredictable, like the time I was walking in the exhibition and someone sneaks upon me scaring the shit out of me and there he was laughing, he spotted me from a distance and decided to give me a heart attack! and go on his way.
Now he’s a daddy and I know he’ll be a great one, because if he ain’t I’ll be there to smack him on the head and put him right back on track ;P
I have the greatest brother of them all!! My brother, my big brother…
I have a great brother who is different than most brothers…
I have a great brother because he makes me laugh when nobody can…
I have a great brother whose heart is so much bigger than mine…
I have a great brother that does not get upset nor mad easily…
I have a great brother that makes me cry tears of joy in spite the distance between us…
I have a great brother that has so many qualities that I wish were in me…
I have a great brother that I can never disappoint…
I have a great brother that all the girls wish they have…
I have a great brother that I can fight with then make up and totally forget the cause of our fight…
I have a great brother that I can say anything to…
I have a great brother that appreciates me as I am…
I have a great brother who will be there for me when I truly need him and could not do it on my own…
I have a great brother who tells the truth even if you do not want to hear it, he tells it because he wishes the best for me…
Me, his younger sister…
Me, who is realizing that there is no such thing as perfect, but people and things can be so close to perfection, if one learns how to look at and focus on the bright side, the good side…
I couldn’t ask for a greater big brother, I can but I wouldn’t ;P
I love you man

That’s us in the cinema LOL, he wanted to sit near this wall so he can lift his legs. I wish I can say mine are the hairy ones on the right, but yeah, the mis-match brown trainings, blue socks and beige shoes … aha that’s me
Monsieur, you continue to amaze me … LOVE YA :*
Happy Thoughts

My big brother and his wife welcomed a beautiful little angel. A girl. A perfect little sweet adorable amazing wrapped in pink cute girl.
I didn’t get to hold her, because they took her back to the nursery but we managed to see her through the glass windows.
She’s beautiful …
When I looked at her, I was wowed, I kept thinking she’s coming home. We’re going to have an extra person in the house, running around, crying and laughing. Ohhhh, I’m going to spoil this kid senseless
My brother says, you’re going to love my kids, you’re not going to have enough of them
And I stubbornly say, keep dreaming
But he’s right, this kid already has me wrapped around her little finger
My brother is happy and his wife too, we all are
To having the first grandchild in our family, I’m loving it …
I’m an AUNT now, I feel a bit more wiser ;P

My youngest brother just walked in, they messed up the second less than one year old perfectly assembled computer!
You ask, what the hell do they do?
I don’t freaking know!!!
They ask me why I’m mad … it freaking weird … the problem no one admits to anything! The computer messed up itself, I know it’s a virus, they download the every freaking video, music and games out there!!
Bas malee khilq investigate after them .. or maybe I should!
6ab3an … They want it fixed ASAP … so they can war craft away .. hmmm, maybe I should block the game for a few days, teach them a lesson, tell them the computer needs to recover …
Yeah and the title is right … anyone buying … in fact for free and I’ll add the two PC and their war craft CDs
Shopping with the Bros
Posted by Bloggylife in family on December 5, 2008
I like taking my lil brothers shopping, well they’re not exactly little anymore, masha’allah each one is towering way over my short figure
This is how I like to view why they ask me to take them shopping
- They just LOVE their big sister
- They enjoy shopping with me and my taste in clothes -LOL, I’ve to take my lil sister to correct my taste in clothes!!-
- They like spending time with me
But in reality, I think this is how they view it
- Just in case we run short on cash
- She can go around and around, indulge our mood swings and tolerate our behaviour
- She gets us treats, coffee, cake, smoothies and whatever main meal
hmmm, that’s about all that I can think of. As they get older, they start going out with us less. They prefer to spend time with their friends and cousins. So whatever time they graciously throw upon me, I take it

My youngest brother started his broken record of needing the dead computer! Ofcourse I know I have pushed it too far by leaving it for … how many months now ;P
Anyway I knew it was the power without looking at it and went to Hawali. The thing about Hawali is its crowded most of the time, it drives you crazy. I would either go early in the morning 10AM or 4.30PM/5PM just to avoid traffic and lack of parking!
When I brought the power module home, I gave it to him and told him “yallah you install it” and gave him my tools ;P
He just asked me a few questions here and there and did it ;D He was so proud of himself, he called my big bro just to tell him. He called me to double check if it’s safe to surf the net or not –LOL I taught him well-, I reminded him to update all anti-virus, anti-spam applications before doing so
I introduced him to the concept of sharing, network HD and how to map a network drive ;P so he can dump the update patch from one machine to another and warcraft-away
The question is, how long till the now alive computer die again or in other words be wrecked ;D
Not Over

I had to open my big mouth! Brag about being it an end of an era … No more dropping my bros off to school ….
I was late today and I rushed quickly to my car and my mobile rings it’s my lil bro
“توديني المدرسة”
“يالله بسرعه … ما راح أنطر … عشر لاااا خمس دقايق …”
Close the door and then mobile rings … my other brother
“توديني المدرسة”
So with two of them in my car, the sight of our block at 7.15 AM all cars are jammed in front of schools, it’s horrible. Now I had to drop them off in two different schools. YES, though they are both in high school, one is in each school. beats up the inconvenience of the far away single school !!
Dropped the first one and then the second one and off to find a way around the traffic jam and boy what a crowd … cars were NOT moving and of course I was late
Previously I had experience with all the ins and outs of their school routes, which roads to avoid, what, where, at what time … all figured out … and now this …
I can safely say, this will never end till they start driving and then forget they ever had a sister. That’s always the case
–I guess sisters with younger brothers can relate to this-
Until then, I guess this isn’t over, unless I sneak out of the house extra early, hmmmm, that sounds like a good idea. Though knowing my bros they would probably be waiting …
“مدام امبجر … اشرايج انروح انتريق قبل ما تودينا المدرسة”
Me and my big mouth … I had to say it … I couldn’t keep my mouth shut !!!!
Home Problems

We had an Internet problem and so I called KEMS because apparently my bros can’t pick up the phone and do the job themselves, the operator informed me they had a maintenance issue and that’s why we were reduced to a dial-up speed
According to Bashar’s post, it was a link problem and they should’ve solve it so it was a surprise when I got home from work and still our speed hasn’t picked up
So I called again and they informed me they are updating my record and to check in 5 minutes. I went to sleep, woke up, had my futoor and decided to give them a call because still the problem isn’t solved
The guy concluded that there is a problem with our telephone line and since I was in a good mood I told him I will look into it and then call back
Checked out our DSL modem and heard some sound as I shaked it, good excuse to open the thing and see if any pieces have fallen out, searched for my tools that I got out of attending one of Microsoft’s seminars -a girl has to have her tools-

It was just a piece of broken plastic, so I got out another old DSL modem and configured that and connected it to my room’s socket and still the problem’s the same. I wanted to disconnect everything
Called my bro downstairs and told him to remove the telephone line and the splitter/filter and to my surprise when he told me that the telephone was directly connected to the wall without the filter … OK where is it ?? So that’s the problem
See I like to think I learned a thing or two when it comes to IT stuff and my family, they are a destructive unexplainable force and good thing my last trip to Jarir that I got a spare DSL splitter even though we didn’t need it. Got that out of the box connected it to the telephone and all things went back to normal. Called the ISP to adjust our speed and now all are happily Internet-ing away … My bros with their war games and chatting and me with my downloads
KEMS has a speed test site link
So spare parts, I need to go get another splitter for the future, a power module, RAM just in case, VGA cards and perhaps a motherboard because with my family you never know !!! and you wonder why I am beginning to hate my job … I just can’t have a break !!!

What is different about school starting this year ??
I am free! I don’t want to jinx myself, but today my youngest brother went to high school -all grown up- so no more dropping off to school in the morning. Especially this one, he takes forever to dress up in his everyday school uniform. So no more making sure he’s up, no more horrified that I’ll be late dropping them off and then to work
How long did this tradition go? Well ever since I got my license. My big bro, my lil sis and I would rotate the task. I would drop them off and pick ‘em up, sometimes I take them to breakfast in the morning or to the “dikan” or buy ice-cream after they finish school. And the consequences I suffer after a hot day in the playground playing football
“OH MY GOD, you guys smell awful … open the windows … ‘7ayastooooneeee offfffffff”
How time flies by so quickly? When it’s the first day at school and they want to go extra early to have a go at the front seats. Sometimes I’m their human dictionary asking away questions and solving their homework on their way to school. When they forget their pocket money
I have different memories about all various routes to their school in all types of weathers!! Shortcuts, long way, avoid traffic, alternative … memories …
Will I miss it? YES … but as long as I don’t have to do it again …
Home Networking
Posted by Bloggylife in family, technology on August 13, 2008
So I am looking into improving our home network. The main DSL router is placed in the hall and my room is just across it, but for the wireless signal to reach my room is it kind of weak and it disconnects frequently and to just buy a long cable and plug it seems like a big hassle and I know my mother will never leave me in peace with a long wire dragging all the way to my room and besides my door wouldn’t close
I was telling my brother to bring someone to replace the TV wiring to our rooms with UTP cables, just for a couple of rooms if that can be done but still he didn’t look into this
I went to Jarir and got one of those powerline adapters, what they basically do is utilize the powerline wires to transmit the data
I got Aztech adapters, never heard of them before, for 32.500 KD you get two adapters and two 1 meter long UTP cables which are kind of short and some documentations and a CD. Haven’t look into those yet. Anyway it is straight forward, just get the two adapters out of the box, plug them in any power sockets, connect your laptop to one and the other adapter connect the modem to it and there you go, easy as that, no drivers needed or anything
It says it supports upto 85Mbps, haven’t tested that yet, I need to drag something internally and test the speed. But I noticed that if you ping the router, the average response time is around 4ms which is acceptable I guess, normally it’s less then 1ms if you’re going the normal way using switches

How do they work, well just brainstorming here, but I think it is the same as the broadcasting concept, it doesn’t actually know where the other adapter is plugged, maybe an electrician will be more useful as to how the electricity is distributed, hmmmm, anyway so if they data received is meant to the device connected to the adapter then accept it, if not, then drop it. Don’t take my word, search it
I have alot of wireless modems laying around so I think I’ll just buy a couple more adapters to span our network more over the house instead of using an extender which gives me a headache. My bro had a wireless modem installed in his room, I told him to connect via cables and disable the wireless which you can do under your wireless configuration page, just as below

The other option, hide AP, won’t let your SSID be broadcasted, that is you have to manually insert your wireless network name into your laptop’s wireless configuration, for more security but there are softwares that detect wireless networks that don’t broadcast their SSID
Well that’s done, I believe my next move is to check my two lil bros’ PC, I think both are screwed. I am not sure if the antivirus is even running there! Anyway we’ll see about that laters
IT for Family

My father gave me his laptop to look into
It’s an old gateway, 1.4 Ghz, Pentium 4, 256 RAM and it doesn’t even have a built-in wireless, I remember last time I had to go buy him a card. Yeah not to forget a dead battery that won’t even charge!
So for me to fix his laptop, of course I need Internet connection and since I can’t connect through the magical radio waves from the comfort of my room I needed to take the whole thing and sit within the cable reach to the DSL modem
If you have a laptop that you use for work, why give it to kids, every game ever existed is installed and along with it all the web toolbars out there!!! Everything runs at start up. Virus definition outdated. Windows update never installed anything. Total mess
As I was scanning the 30 GB space, it took 3 hours!! Of course who would blame it! And then it hit me and I remembered, I had a RAM chip in my handbag somewhere
Well how it got into my handbag that’s another story, but I plugged it in and the speed doubled
He was asking me about buying a new laptop and I told him what he used it for and then he said “What about this air one, I heard about MAC air”
“Ouch!!!”
Finally I am going for MAC hunting, though not for me but for dad, nevertheless, it is exciting. I’ll list all the stores that sell the MAC goods and we’ll schedule the shopping later
