DSL Contract
Posted by Bloggylife in Kuwait, technology, troubleshooting on February 16, 2008
My DSL subscription is going to be over soon so I need to renew it. Currently it is united network, I got it for a year. Their service had its ups and downs. Especially in the first couple of months, were their simple technical support is restart the router!! Can’t blame them though. And now that my contract will be over in a few days, same issues happen, keeps connecting and disconnecting frequently.

What I don’t understand is that though the router has authenticated and got all the DSL connection detail and IP information for Internet connection, it still can’t browse the Internet! I can’t even ping their IP side. I refresh and make sure locally we have no problem, the only solution to restart the router!! Is it the router problem, is it from their side, and their tech support won’t give you details cause their answer is restart the router and they always assume you don’t know anything.
So I’m thinking of taking up Fast Telecom just because we have an offer with them. I am not really sure about their DSL service with their whole datacenter on fire issue. I need to compare prices and services.
7asafa, I thought my contract extended till April or I would have checked all offers at the latest infoconnect exhibition. I’ll deal with this next week insha’Allah.

Overdue Topics
Posted by Bloggylife in Kuwait, thoughts on November 4, 2007
I still can not believe some of the topics that are still discussed and debated by people. So overdue! They need to deal with it and move on.

We all went to college, they make it sound like “الواحد مو مصدق اذاشاف بنية أو اذا شافت اصبي“
Anyway, now they are segregating lectures, I’m not going to mention how this makes things worse for the students since it limits their choices. Even they are now universities for girls only.
Based on my experience, I am against “منع الاختلاط“. Eventually we have to deal with the opposite sex, so we might as well get trained in college and not wait till we get jobs and be called uptight social retards!! Of course some unacceptable things may happen, deal with it!
First of all why do we assume that the change is for the worse and not for the better. then we compare with the lowest of the lowest and ignore the best and what we can be with all the resources we have. See if two people were required to build a shelter to live in, one has all the materials wood, bricks, metal, nails, cement, tools, manpower, etc. and the other has tree branches and a cloth. Yet both end up building the same thing ‘la ew ba3ad’ the first hires the second to do the job!! See what I mean. I’m not going to talk about how we can make this country better because everybody does and nothing is happening. All I ask is as individuals we do what is required. Simply try going to work on time and actually doing the job assigned. If you have a government job and you complain about there is nothing there, try developing yourself through courses establish your own business. If not, at least practice basic Islamic principles “أخلاق” like don’t throw trash, abide to laws, treat people with respect, don’t steal”حلال عليهم حرام علينا” won’t stand as a valid argument in front of GOD on judgement day. If all is difficult, at least “ربوا اعيالكم عدل” maybe the next generation will do better.
I really am shocked that people still talk about this. Aren’t we over this already? Whenever a new technology is emerged protests fly all over! Let’s go back 500 years. Sit in tents and ride camels, is that the solution? Imagine this scenario, send camels to bring “pimps and whores” to the “casino tent”. You see you don’t need TVs, mobiles, cameras, stereos, etc. to do the forbidden and whatever you want. Everything has its good side and bad side, its up to the end user to decide they like to benefit from which one. Mentioning the Internet people automatically assume, opposite gender chatting and porn. The Internet is a global interconnected systems that allows people around the world to communicate. Let’s mention a few of the trillion things you can do over the Internet: Banking transactions, airplane applications, information exchange, emails, educational websites, news, free calls, online shopping and business, etc. Imagine if you can’t do that anymore!! Instead of bitching about it why not use it for your own good. Setup websites promoting Islamic teaching and virtues for example. Even for finishing government papers, how many years does it take to really practice what others have been doing for ages!!*e-government is still a dream*. This particular subject ticks me off, once a woman called my mother to ask me how can she forbid her daughter from talking to boys and talk only to girls over the Internet, my fatal mistake is attempting to explain that this is an application where anyone can be anyone and you can’t tell which is which just talk to your daughter and tell her how you feel, eventually my solution was unplug the PC “و فكينا“.
Cats in Kuwait
Posted by Bloggylife in funny, Kuwait, thoughts on November 3, 2007

Cats in Kuwait are suicidal. Someone some long time ago gave them the illusion that cats really had 9 lives, that they could survive a car tire running over them, it probably was a dog. I don’t know if this only happens in Kuwait but cats are weird. I’d be extra cautious when entering our area because any second some crazy maniac cat will come running out of the bushes in front of me. From a distance I can see it standing on the sidewalk staring straight ahead, I would slow down to give it time to cross the road, and does it cross NO. It waits until I am close enough and then runs like hell to the other side. Even if I flash my head lights continuously, it doesn’t seem to take notice! ‘La wala laman’ they stand in the middle of the road and won’t move, I would turn my car away from it ‘3ameti ma tabe tet7arak!!’ then I would see it in my rear-view mirror crossing. I’ve seen people don’t give a damn, they would just simply run over them. I mean they are crazy cats and do have a death wish but you don’t have to make it your job to grant it, just leave them be. ‘Yama’ I hit the brakes so hard just to avoid sending a cat to the other side of this world. I don’t know what’s the solution, make cats be more car accident aftermath aware, a campaign addressed to the naïve species of cats: Believe it or not your 9 lives count for nothing when a 1 ton car runs over you no matter what the legend is. Maybe, just maybe this will help tackle the problem.
Names vs Numbers
Posted by Bloggylife in family, Kuwait on October 10, 2007
I took my younger brothers shopping in the Avenues. I don’t know what kicked in but I decided to teach them something, from me, their big sister along the way ;D
I didn’t realize it was something odd until people start asking me questions, why do you memorize street numbers? Well, it’s easier, I truly believe that. Each street or highway in Kuwait has more than one name but one unified number so I go by that. Also, I hate it when people describe “خلي برج الساعة على يمينج” , there is more than one way to do that!
“اذا بدلي أحد“
I’ll say: take road 40, then the fifth ring road take a left, go ahead till you see road 60 take it all the way to ….
Even the bridges, 205 … I do keep forgetting some If I don’t go there for a while. But it’s a challenge. It is very useful when describing to the (اعليمية) people. I have a friend who I used this method to get her around Kuwait before she bought a car with a GPS system.
So I quizzed my brothers, and this street is ..
“الدائري الخامس“
good …
“صح هذا السادس“
Yup and those streets going across, this is 40 “King Fahad”, 45 “Damascus”, 85
Since everybody keeps telling me no one memorizes street numbers. I decided to increase the population of the people who do so by including my brothers, you can call it cheating but I don’t want to be the only one
Latest Trip to Bin-Kaldoon
Posted by Bloggylife in entertainment, Kuwait on October 5, 2007
What movies do you want, I asked my brother and he gave me a list. Every now and then I go to bin-Khaldoon Street to get some movies. I haven’t been there for quite a while, so I have a long list. I get these high-quality DVD movies for 1 KD. Some may argue that this is not legal, I know. But it is rather tempting to pay this amount instead of 5 KD or even more per DVD. Not only this but you get them all cut and chopped. It is perfectly fine to tolerate the censoring when going to the cinemas but on DVDs. Can’t they have two editions and people choose? Anyway my trip resulted in buying 11 DVDs, Linksys wireless router and two DSL splitters. I wanted to buy network hard drive but all the brands that they have, I’ve never heard of. So if anyone has some advice. I was thinking of going online but is it really worth it?
I watched Blades of Glory, now this is a funny movie starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder. It is about two men who are professional ice skaters who end up skating as a couple. I do recommend it.

Van Helsing was rather disappointing I didn’t like it that much. I know it is an old movie but it was one of the movies I remembered not seeing and had to watch it.
Other movies that I have bought, Jarhead, Wild Hogs, Da Vinci Code, Die Hard 4, Ocean’s 13, Fracture, the number 23, Invincible and Fun with Dick and Jane.

They maybe many other indicators that I have missed, you’re welcome to share ;D
